Products> Micro Inverters

A reliable, highly efficient, and affordable solar micro inverter with a 25-Year U.S. warranty, it's a product you can trust with your most demanding applications. Micro inverters have been proven to dramatically increase net annual AC kWh production when compared to string inverters. Micro inverters are the best solution for applications that must avoid string inverter performance degradation caused by partial or intermittent shade. SPP Micro inverters save even more than others, because there are no trunk cables or other proprietary components needed. This reduces the hardware cost, and makes installation simpler and faster.

Review Comparison of Micro Inverters vs. Central String Inverters

Micro inverters and string inverters both convert solar DC output to normal AC current, and they both allow connecting to the grid for selling excess solar power back to the utility company Both are reliable and mature technologies and have similar operating efficiency.

The differences: With a string inverter, all panels are connected in series, so if one panel fails or has a shade problem, the output of all other panels in the string falls to match the output of the degraded panel. With micro inverters, each panel has it's own inverter, so any problem on one panel does not affect other panels. Below, the graphic shows a row of six 230 watt panels, with the last panel under a partial shade condition. String inverters may cost less to buy and install and are fine to use in full sun locations. Use micro inverters in locations where one or more panels may have a shade condition.

Top row using Microinverters - shows six 230w panels with one panel shaded to 190w. Total 1293w.

2nd row using string inverter - shows six 230w panels with one panel shaded to 190w. Total 1140w.

Using micro inverters (top row, above) each panel has it's own inverter installed on the panel. The failure or shading of one panel has no effect on the remaining panels. In certain conditions, the annual net AC power output of a solar array can be up to 50% higher when using micro inverters as compared to string inverters. Above example shows 13% power difference.

Also, micro inverters allow for an infinitely expandable and flexible PV system, using a mix of panel brands, voltages, and power ratings. You can start with a small system and add to it as requirements increase or as more funding becomes available, with no worries about future panel compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions about SPP Microinverters

The SPP micro inverters look exactly like a famous brand of micro inverters I have used before. What's the deal?
Actually it is the same product. SPP micro inverters are made alongside of more than one million units sold under the famous international brand, and have the same design, materials, specifications, 25-year warranty, and certifications. The differences are found in our USA-administered warranty service, and our expert USA-based engineering & technical support team.

Do Micro inverter systems have a higher downtime rate since there are more potential failure points?
No. Micro inverter systems have less net downtime. And if a micro inverter unit or panel fails, the remainder of the system keeps working while awaiting a 15-minute replacement. When a string inverter or panel fails, the entire string is down until a replacement is received and installed, usually days later. Replacement micro inverters can be delivered UPS Next-Day and are small and low-cost, allowing spares to be easily and affordably kept on hand by larger system operators.

How does the SPP Microinverter efficiency compare to traditional inverters or other microinverters?
Compared to string inverters, micro inverters have slightly less peak operating operating efficiency, but are capable of much higher annual kWh production efficiency. Compared to other brands of micro inverters, the SPP unit efficiency is equivalent to the higher-cost micro inverter brands while providing a lower installed cost per watt, a better ROI, and a better warranty. MPPT efficiency is >99%, CEC efficiency is 95%.
